Chapter-Eighteen
Just as the kiss was about to reach its climax, Destin pulled away. He laughed nervously while scratching the back of his head. Puzzled, Selena took a step back with several questions running through her mind.
Why did he stop?
Am I a bad kisser?
Do I have bad breath?
While Selena pondered those questions and more, Destinâs voice broke through her train of thought. âS-sorry I shouldnât have done that.â
âWhy?â
âIt was wrong of me to kiss you,â Destin answered.
âN-no,â Selena protested. âJust in case you hadnât noticed, I kissed you back.â
Destin hated fighting back his lust.
âYeah, I did notice, and youâre an amazing kisser,â Destin tried to explain, but he couldnât push the images of Chelsea out of his mind. Though she was no longer the person he once knew, Destin felt as if somehow by kissing Selena he had betrayed Chelseaâs memories.
âItâs too soon,â he murmured.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âI-I recently lost someone that I possibly was in love with,â Destin replied.
Selena gasped as well as looked away from Destin in shame. âIâm sorry.â
Destin stared downward while scratching the back of his head. âStop apologizing. Everything isnât your fault.â He looked up at Selena. âBesides, I kissed you first.â
Selena only nodded and continued to avert her gaze. She tried her best not to make eye contact with Destin, but they met up with his. He gave her another reassuring smile, and Selena could feel the lust she felt for him surging throughout her uncontrolled.
âSo where is Romanov holding your dad hostage?â Destinâs voice broke her free from her bewilderment
âI donât know the layout of the city, but I do know itâs a creepy, old abandoned building in the rural area of town,â Selena answered after clearing her throat.
âThere are plenty of those around here.â
âYeah but this place is like super creepy. I heard some of guards saying it used to be an asylum of some sort.â
Destin folded his arms and tilted his head up to the right as his brain searched for information on any asylum located within Shady Willow.
âYou must be talking about the Abrahamâs Mental Intuition,â Destin said, lowering his head.
Selena shrugged. âAll I know is itâs an old, eerie building that Romanov bought.â
Destin smirked. âIâve never been inside the place, but I heard stories about it being it haunted.â
Selena shivered at the word haunted. âDo you even have a plan on how we are going to sneak in and rescue my father?â
Destin opened his mouth to answer but stopped as a distant and familiar sound caught his attention. Curiously, he began surveying the area.
Selena took notice of the look of concern that was coated across Destinâs face. âDestin, whatâs wrong?â
Destin put his index finger to his lips. âListen...do you hear that?â
To Selenaâs ears, the entire area was quiet and had an uncanny calm about it. However, Destin heard the sound of faint thunder, and with every feeble roar, it became louder and closer.
Selena tried to focus in on what Destin was hearing, but heard silence untilâ
